The Foraging Guide
How It Works
Hello! So your character has decided to try and Forage? Well here is all of the information, you as a roleplayer, needs to know in order to properly forage on Ebon! Keep in mind, you do not have to forage in order for your character to survive. Foraging is meant for a way for you to explore injuries with your character and help provide a way for Leaders to keep up their Faction Log. There are also plants that don't exist on earth that do exist here on Ebon. These ingredients can be used by the Alchemist Talent, they can also be used as offerings to a God or Goddess you have wronged or would like a blessing from! They don't come without risk however, as serious injuries can occur when you face the guardians of all kinds.
Regular Herbs
Regular herbs are just like the ones you find here on earth, they can be used without any special treatment other than maybe removing the stems or seeds of a plant. You must be careful as if you consume to much of a certain ingredient it can be deadly, or some may even be addicting. These herbs have different rankings depending on the rarity of the herb, it's these rankings that change how the outcome of your forage will go and the injuries you may face.
Easy Forage
An easy forage is for those looking to find up to three of the same herb in one go. They are easy to find as they grow all over the world except for the Crystalline Desert. Below is a small comprehensive list of some different types of herbs you can find here on Ebon as well as their uses, keep in mind your character must know of them in the world of Ebon before you are able to forage for them. There are also glass vials you can obtain through an easy forage, In order to find glass vials you must forage for them in the Crystalline Desert, but only as a rouge. If you don't see a specific herb on this list than feel free to put it in your Forage Request, as this is just a vague guide to go off of.

You will run the risk of a greater injury since you are trying to harvest a large amount of herbs, but you will have far more than if you were to do an easy forage.

Well now that you know some of the herbs how do you actually find them? In order to forage for an item you need to have posted in a thread with your character getting ready to forage. That means in the post they must know what they are looking for, this includes the name of the herb or whatever they are looking for. Other things you can include are what it looks like, climates where it grows, as well as it's uses. The only time you may not mention what you are looking for specifically is when you are looking for Jewelry at the Tree of Oris. You may not attempt to find the magical fruits or jewelry at any other place other than the Tree of Oris. That is because both Fara and Cerulle have worked together under the blessings of their mother to provide creatures with a way to heal themselves in a pinch or decorate themselves with the ever abundant amount of things Oris tends to create. There are other areas to find regular herbs and plants, and for those you can search anywhere besides the Crystalline Desert as there is no soil there. You may attempt to find the less potent gem fruits in the Jeweled Oasis and the Blue Sap from the Sibylline Grove but only in their respective areas.
Now that you have your target picked out and your character is ready to go you need to head on over to the Forage Request forum and post a request! From there Staff will handle things and then post to your thread with the outcome. If you have the Gatherer Talent, then you may choose between two sets of numbers. You may NOT mix and match the sets, each injury and outcome goes to one set each.
No matter the injury or whether or not it is successful, you must have your character respond to it. The injury you take is up to you, all the dice have done is decide the severity of it. These injuries do not just go away, your character will have to heal from it and you cannot just ignore it. You cannot change an injury once you have posted it. If you need to edit an injury receiving post please ask permission from a Staff member to do so. The different types of injuries are below, keep in mind that these are just examples and you may use your own version of an injury, but be mindful that if you accidentally take a more severe injury then it will stay and you cannot change it.
Light Injury - These are injuries that will not affect your character much. They are little things that you notice at first and then carry on your way. Examples of light injuries are scrapes, scuffs, bruises, scratches, even stubbing a toe or getting hit relatively hard in the face with a branch counts! Be mindful, as these can be a little bit more troublesome if they pile up.
Moderate Injury - These are injuries that will affect your character quite a bit. They are relatively noticeable and will affect your creatures day to day life. Examples of moderate injuries are sprains, cuts, first degree burns, second degree burns, thorns that get stuck under the skin, and certain types of bug stings. Be mindful of injuries that break skin as they can get infected if not treated, sprains can worsen over time and can completely destroy a muscle or tendon.
Severe Injury - These are injuries that will require immediate medical attention. They are life threatening and will kill your character if they are not treated properly. Staff will post specifics of the injury you have taken and steps you can take to try and heal your character. These injuries however will have long term affects, such as limping, scarring, or even disorders such as long term memory loss. Examples of severe injuries are concussions, deep gashes, internal bleeding, ruptured organs, and broken bones. Treat these injuries with extreme care and are extremely painful.
There was also mention of guardians at the higher level plants and jewelry, well that's because there are! That is up to you as a roleplayer to decide! Normally these guardians take a black shadowy form with white eyes and disappear once your character has taken the appropriate damage. These creatures come out of no where and go off back to where they came from once they're done. Your character can react to them however they please but keep in mind that the injuries they leave are very real. These creatures also cannot be killed nor can they be followed and they leave no trace other than the wounds they create. So be careful and stay safe in your travels!
