Welcome to Ebon! We have a few rules set in place here along with the general rules of Proboards. Make sure to read through all of them and if you have any questions feel free to ask Staff!

OOC Rules

Hello and welcome to Ebon! We do have a few rules that you need to know before you get started as well as a few mechanisms that the site runs on since this is a high-fantasy animal roleplay site. Just below are our Out Of Character rules, or OOC Rules. These are rules that apply outside of character and how you should conduct yourself on Ebon. Below this set of rules is the In Character Rules so make sure to read both. With that out of the way, lets get started!

1) Treat your fellow roleplayers with respect and dignity. Do not swear at them directly, do not make fun of them, and do not make fun of their characters. If a roleplayer asks you for a critique please be helpful and not damaging, we accept every level of writing here including both experienced and fresh roleplayers. Follow the golden rule, treat others how you would like to be treated!

2) Remember that a roleplayer is not their character. Do not take your frustrations out on another roleplayer's characters nor should you argue about things that your characters are doing. Your characters will interact how they will, they will deal with the consequences of their own actions, and their actions will not reflect back on a roleplayer. If you feel as though someone is targeting you with their characters OR another roleplayer has been harassing you about things your characters have been doing then please direct it to Staff. We will handle it and act as a mediate.

3) No Godmoding/Powerplaying/Metagaming. Godmoding, making your characters invincible or extremely tough or difficult to harm, Powerplaying, taking control of another roleplayers character and using them to do things, or Metagaming, using OOC knowledge in character to gain an upper hand, are strictly forbidden. This makes things unenjoyable and is frustrating to try and work with. Always use an attempt when interacting with other characters, keep in mind what information your character has, if you are unsure ask the person you are roleplaying with, and take damage realistically. This keeps things fair and easy to follow for Staff during spars.

4) We have an Open Door Policy. As you've noticed by now we have mentioned Staff a few times. This is because we are here to help you with any issues you may have regarding the site. This can be anything from issues with coding, glitches in the site, issues with other roleplayers, or even just a question you may need an answer to. This site is a home away from home and our goal is to make sure that everyone here is treated equally and can feel safe.

5) This is a PG 13 form. This means that anyone here must be 13 years of age or older to join. This is not just our policy but also Proboards own Terms of Service. This means that any heavy, or graphic information such as violence, excessive language, or disturbing scenes must be marked with an [M] tag in the title or have a warning within the post of graphic content. Sexual content is not allowed and as you will see in the In Character rules that something like that would not make sense in this world.

6) Ebon Is A Multi-Account Site. This is because of how we sort out our characters. You must have one account per character you own as well as an OOC account to use for things like raffles, polls, and anything else that might come up for you as a roleplayer. Your account name for a character must be their name, as well as not having any symbols and numbers and must be one word. So things like Swift Wind must either be written as Swiftwind, SwiftWind, or Swift-Wind. Nothing else will be accepted and the account will be deleted if written wrong as that means you have read this rule and elected to ignore it, or you have not read the rules.

7) Have Patience. Everyone has a day to day life, and sometimes that life gets a little crazy and strange. Please allow people time to respond to your posts. Officially they have 7 days from the previous post to respond before having the ability to be skipped. This skip can be a character leaving a thread or the next person in the order.

8) We have a posting order. There is a posting order to things. If character A starts the thread and characters B and C join in then the order goes ABC. If character A does not respond within the 7 day mark they may be skipped and the order will now be BC. If character D joins the order will go BCD. If A rejoins after a few posts their character is technically present for all that has transpired and the order will be BCDA.

9) We run on double time and have Liquid Time. Every 12 hours is a full 24 hours on Ebon, this also means that every 6 months in real life a year in Ebon has passed. Liquid Time enables you to post your character in several locations at once. Please keep in mind how quickly your character can travel however, you cannot be in the Underbirth and then jump to the Northern Lands within 5 minutes. Try to keep your threads close together if posting in several at once.

10) Finally, lets all have fun together!

IC Rules

Alright, so now that you know how things work OOC wise it's time to take a look at what you can do In Character, or IC! These rules are more to explain how Ebon is structured and the rules that go along with it!

1) Creature Anatomy. This is a little bit different that what you would normally think, while Ebon creatures can refer to themselves as Male or Female there are actually no parts of the body that define this. That's right! All creatures on Ebon are sexless, that is due to the Soul Stone's within their bodies. They are created through energy given to The Tree of Oris and from there the child is created within the cocoon and then Oris calls for the parents when the cocoon is ready to hatch. Contrary to popular belief the children often appear like their parents.

Speaking of Anatomy creatures have semi-dexterous paws and forelimbs. They do not have thumbs nor can they do complex creations such as swords or armor but things like woven baskets and leatherwork for capes and bracers are acceptable. They must be sitting to do things like this however, as they can sit upright like a human but cannot walk on two legs. Think of the movie "All Dogs Go To Heaven 2" and you wont be far off. They can work with molten metal to create crude jewelry and work with natural materials, but if they create these things then you will need to buy the proper item from the shop if you wish for it to be applied to a character.

2) Magic and Talents. Each character created may have 2 Elemental Branches OR 2 Talents to them upon the time of creation in your application. You may also apply one of each to a character upon creation. Once that application had been accepted you may not change this unless you have purchased an extra Elemental Branch or Talent and posted it to the Updates form and it has been added to your records.

3) Factions are limited to 1 per character. As a roleplayer you may have up to 2 Factions total and will be subject to all the rules within the Faction Guide. You may not have one character be apart of more than one Faction officially. Nothing stops a character from lying and saying that they are in a second Faction or saying that they are a rogue but OOC on their profile you will only be allowed to have one Rank in a Faction.

4) Breeding and Forcebreeding are allowed. Because our creatures have no sex there is not the traditional idea of Forcebreeding, or other wise known as FB, instead it is a spar and the stealing of energy. You are not permitted to write graphic scenes including R18 material nor will a creature take a physical pleasure from doing such an action. The Breeding Guide will have more information on how the system works.

5) Sparring is allowed without consent. Here on Ebon the story is progressed from creatures interacting and that includes disputes settled by battling! Because our store has items that can replace features on your character damage can be mediated and blindness, deafness, and removed limbs can be replaced. Replacing a broken limb is not allowed unfortunately, that will have to heal first before it can be replaced in post. For more information on Spars and how they work please refer to the Battle Guide.

6) Hunting and Foraging must be rolled for. If your character is doing a hunt or a forage, whether by themselves or with others they must apply for a roll in the Updates form. This allows for Staff to determine if you were successful (done by a dice roll) and which injuries you have taken (also done by dice roll). For more information on prey allowed please refer to the Hunting Guide and for Foraging please refer to the Forage Guide.

7) Changing Ranks or Using Items. When using an item or trying to change your character's rank please refer to this Request page. You will need to provide proof of your character obtaining the item or where they have received the rank in character. Staff will evaluate it and let you know when it's been added to the records.

8) Concerning Character Artwork. When using stock photos please make sure they are free to use! Unsplash, Pixabay, and Dawnthieves are great resources to use if you are unsure where to start from. Stylized artwork is also perfectly acceptable so long as it is your artwork or you have proof of purchasing it from another artist. These art pieces are allowed to be used for posting tables and for character reference in your applications. Please keep them between 600px in width, height isn't as much of a concern. Also provide clear text for us to read, please keep things legible.

9) Keep things fair between characters. This is similar to the rules in the OOC section. It is important that all attempts at physically interacting with another character to be an attempt. Do not state anything that hasn't been confirmed in the previous post such as scents that do not make sense, facial expressions, and movements. Try to focus your posts on your own characters actions and responses if possible to try and avoid complications.

10) All rules can be subject to change depending on the changing circumstances of the site and what our community wishes to have.
