Pregnancy & Birth Guide
Breeding
So your characters wish to have children? Look no further! This is the guide to breeding, pregnancy, birth, and raising children here on Ebon! Breeding here on Ebon functions very differently than Earth seeing as all playable characters are sexless. Instead they have Soul Stones, set in their chest or where the third eye should be. They can be any shape or color and stay with a creature until they die, they also hold all magical energy within a creature. It is this energy that is used for creatures to breed and create children.
First thing you must do is buy a Breeding Pass on the The Shop page. Only one parent must have this in order for Staff to accept the pregnancy request.
Now a breeding thread must occur! This can be consensual or not and seeing as it is energy a special type of spar is done. If it someone trying to steal breeding energy from another creature there is more information in the Battle Guide.
This breeding thread can occur anywhere in the world of Ebon, but you as a roleplayer must get your character to the Tree of Oris within 1 OOC of the breeding thread, otherwise the request will be considered void.
Now that your character has had a breeding thread, and another thread now at the Tree of Oris, you must have them dump their energy into a cocoon. This can be any sensation you would like, draining, pleasing, happy, sad, whatever suits your character's personality. Once they have done that, the cocoon should lift up high into the tree and turn an orange or red color. All of this is done in your post, you can have characters join yours or have it just be your own character doing it, but they must complete these steps in character.
As a roleplayer you now have to go to the Pregnancy Request Forum and provide the information there. Links must be filled out as well as all of the information, this must be done as soon as possible for Staff to have enough time to get everything sorted. This is because the birth thread is set at the conception date, the day you post the Tree of Oris thread. After all of that is done you will have to sit tight and wait for Staff to announce the results!
Pregnancy
You've completed the steps IC and OOC for a pregnancy to occur, and now Staff has posted the results! Staff will use a dice roll to determine if it was successful, the number of children, the species if a hybrid, as well as what mutations they will be born with!
All of the children from the pregnancy will be housed in the same cocoon, so there's no need to watch out for any extra cocoons lying around or worry about a child getting left behind.
The number of children can range from 1 child, to 6 children and no matter the number it will take 2 weeks OOC, or 1 month IC, for the cocoon to incubate fully. During that time you as a roleplayer must create an adoption thread if you are not roleplaying the children as well. It isn't against the rules for you to play all of the children, but an adoption thread is recommended so that you don't overwhelm yourself.
You as a roleplayer have full control over what exactly the children look like, what they can be named, and the gender they like to refer to themselves as. The dice roll simply determines what mutations they can have without the need of purchasing any of them. Of course in your adoption thread you can allow those who are applying for the children to create their own designs, gender, and name. These decisions are completely up to you, just make sure it all gets done by the time the birth thread rolls around or they will be considered stillborn.
Birth
After the two week period and whether the children have roleplayers or not, a birth thread will be posted by Staff. The tree will lower the limb that contains the cocoon and it will begin cracking to reveal the children IC. Before this no parent will know what is going on as the cocoons start extremely high in the sky and slowly lower over time. The parents will also not know the children have been born, as Oris likes to keep things a surprise.
Once the cocoon has cracked Oris will call out telepathically to the parents to come see their young. This is when time becomes a little fuzzy, as no matter where your character is in the world they can appear at the Tree of Oris for a birth thread. Both do not need to attend, only one must attend if the children are to survive.
There is a 3 day waiting period, after 3 OOC days and no parents have arrived than any adult may take in the children that have been birthed. Characters that come to adopt the children do not need to worry about a time constraint when it comes to travel. They cannot however know who the parents are based off of the children's appearance OR the call of Oris, as Oris only calls to the parents. Once 1 OOC week has passed and no parent or guardian of any sort arrives then the children will perish.
Growth and Aging
Characters that have just been born are born at .25 years of age and can eat solid foods. They can know some language skills and move around fairly easily. After that every season that passes they gain .25 onto their age.
Ages .25 - 1
These are children, young children will not know many things about the world and will not be able to fight very well. Their teeth are still small and they have childlike proportions for almost all of this time. They cannot breed nor can they go long distances without tiring. If they go without a caretaker for longer than 3 OOC weeks than they will be very sick and should attempt to find a new guardian quickly. They will not die, but they will be in the underweight class until they are an adult or back under an adults care.
Ages 1 - 2
These are teenagers, they will know most of how the world works and can fight fairly decently. Their teeth will be adult teeth and they will have mostly adult proportions. They cannot breed until they are 2 years of age and can travel as well as any adult. If they go without a caretaker they will fall into the light weight class category and will only return to any other weight class once they have hit 2 years of age or have joined a Faction.
Ages 2 and onwards
These are adults, they will know how the world works and can fight and hunt. They will have full adult proportions, they can breed and can travel so long as their body lets them. They will be in any weight class that is allowed and can join a Faction if they wish or remain a rouge, their health will not be affected by it. As creatures do not die of old age there is no fear of growing old or having a creature naturally deteriorate.
